PP-CST Ecosystem ©: A Translation of PP-CST (Parent’s Practices-Children Screen Time) Questionnaire© into a Digital Parenting Screening and Behavioral Support Innovation for Healthier Children’s Screen Habit

Department of Public Health Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UiTM Kampus Sungai Buloh

About the Project

Screen time puts childrens at risk of behavioral, cognitive, and health issues. Malaysia lacks culturally relevant instruments to assess parental knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) and transform assessment findings into meaningful behavioural intervention. Parents shape children's digital behaviors. Awareness-based education without parental screening and supporting intervention is common. Thus, a research-informed and sustainable digital parenting environment is essential to encourage healthier screen use in families. This innovation introduces the PP-CST Ecosystem©, a research-based digital parenting screening and behavioural support prototype based on the questionnaire. Using behavioural theories and empirical information on children's screen behaviors, the ecosystem measures parental KAP on screen time management and provides personalized behavioural assistance. The ecosystem includes digital screening, scoring interpretation, parental risk profile, and supportive behavioral resources like a parental diary record, pledge cards, family rules chart, and a 7-day screen-free challenge. Psychometric validation of the PP-CST Questionnaire is ongoing. Initial results showed adequate content and face validity, with CVI and FVI values between 0.83 and 1.00. Pilot research of 30 parents found strong internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha values of 0.862 for Knowledge, 0.747 for Attitude, and 0.908 for Practice. Preliminary exploratory factor analysis confirmed domain-wide construct structure. The PP-CST Ecosystem© could be a scalable community and digital health breakthrough that links parental evaluation to behaviour assistance. This invention supports SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and 4 (Quality Education) by promoting better digital parenting and child well-being in families and communities.
