About the Project

Pharmacokinetics (PK) is a fundamental component of medical education, enabling students to understand drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion, all of which are essential for safe and effective therapeutic decision-making. However, traditional teaching modalities—primarily didactic lectures and limited physical laboratory sessions—often fall short in conveying the dynamic and quantitative nature of PK principles. Many students struggle to develop a deep conceptual understanding due to the lack of interactive, real-time experiential learning. Additionally, access to laboratory facilities is frequently restricted by resource, space, staffing, and cost limitations, particularly in low- and middle-income regions. This study aims to address these educational gaps through the development of PharmacoLab, an innovative mobile and web-based application designed to simulate PK experiments and drug-response scenarios. The objectives of this project are to (i) create an interactive digital platform that reinforces core PK concepts, (ii) provide real-time visualisation of drug concentration–time profiles, and (iii) enhance independent and self-paced learning among medical students. The novelty of PharmacoLab lies in its ability to replicate laboratory-based PK experiments through a user-friendly digital interface that integrates simulation, feedback, and applied problem-solving. Unlike static teaching tools, PharmacoLab enables students to manipulate variables such as dose, route of administration, clearance, and half-life, fostering deeper understanding through virtual experimentation. Beyond its academic value, PharmacoLab holds strong commercialisation potential. Its scalability, affordable deployment, and relevance across medical, pharmacy, and health sciences programmes position it as a viable educational technology product for global adoption. The platform can be marketed to universities, training centres, and e-learning providers as a cost-effective alternative to traditional laboratory-based PK instruction.
