Biospectro Apps: Spectrometer Application for Biosensors

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia

About the Project

Biospectro Apps is an innovative software application that transforms a standard smartphone or webcam into a functional, portable spectrometer for biosensor applications. Traditional spectrometers are expensive, bulky, and inaccessible to many educational institutions, small clinics, and field researchers. This project addresses these limitations by developing a user-friendly graphical interface that captures live video, extracts RGB values, and estimates the dominant wavelength of a sample in real-time. A key innovation of this application is its device-specific calibration system, which allows users to create and save multiple calibration profiles to compensate for color detection variations across different cameras. The app provides comprehensive analytical tools, including real-time RGB intensity histograms, color name identification, and a CIE 1931 chromaticity diagram for detailed spectral analysis. This portable, cost-effective solution democratizes spectrometry, enabling rapid and accurate biosensor-based detection for healthcare diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and educational purposes. By making advanced spectroscopic analysis accessible to a wider audience, Biospectro Apps represents a significant step forward in affordable scientific instrumentation. All data can be exported in CSV and PNG formats for further documentation and research, ensuring its utility in both academic and industrial settings.
