About the Project
Small-scale aquaculture farmers often rely on manual feeding and water monitoring, which can result in inconsistent feeding, feed wastage, poor water conditions, and fish mortality. This project presents the Smart Feed Technology Water Monitoring System, an affordable IoT-based prototype designed to improve fish farming through automated feeding, environmental monitoring, and early-warning alerts. The system uses an Arduino Uno R3 as its central controller, integrating a stepper motor, pH sensor, temperature sensor, water-level sensor, MQ-series gas sensor, LDR, PIR sensor, water pump, LED indicators, LCD display, and Bluetooth module. The programmed system continuously processes sensor readings and applies predefined threshold-based rules to identify abnormal conditions. The stepper motor automatically dispenses feed according to scheduled feeding times, while the water pump supports aeration and water circulation. Visual indicators and Bluetooth notifications provide immediate warnings when potentially unsafe conditions are detected. Prototype testing demonstrated the successful integration of automated feeding, environmental monitoring, and wireless alert functions. The system demonstrates the potential of low-cost IoT technology to reduce manual labour and feed wastage while supporting more efficient, sustainable, and climate-resilient aquaculture practices.
