About the Project

The adoption of smart farming technologies among small-scale farmers remains limited due to high implementation costs, inefficient water management, labour-intensive agricultural practices, inadequate real-time monitoring, and limited access to advanced technologies. To address these challenges, this innovation introduces the Modular Smart-Farming Kit, an affordable, flexible, and AI-powered agricultural solution designed to enhance farming efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. The innovation integrates seven interconnected modules: (1) Smart Soil for real-time soil moisture monitoring, (2) Smart Climate for temperature and humidity monitoring, (3) Smart Irrigation for automated water management, (4) AI Crop Vision for early detection of crop abnormalities and potential diseases, (5) Smart Energy for solar-powered operations, (6) Smart Controller for intelligent data processing and automated decision-making, and (7) Farm Monitor App for remote monitoring, smart alerts, and system control. The development adopts a modular, plug-and-play approach, enabling farmers to customise and expand the system according to their agricultural requirements and financial capabilities. By integrating Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), automation, renewable energy, and mobile technology, the proposed system aims to optimise water consumption, minimise manual intervention, improve crop health monitoring, and support data-driven agricultural decisions. The innovation also demonstrates commercialisation potential through three proposed product packages: AgriSmart BASIC, AgriSmart PLUS, and AgriSmart AI PRO, targeting home growers, smallholder farmers, educational institutions, and commercial agricultural enterprises. Its anticipated contributions include economic efficiency, environmental sustainability, technological accessibility, and agricultural education. Furthermore, the innovation supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 9, 12, and 13 by promoting food security, technological innovation, responsible resource consumption, and climate-resilient agriculture. Overall, the Modular Smart-Farming Kit offers a scalable and accessible approach to transforming conventional farming into smarter, more efficient, and sustainable agricultural practices.
