About the Project

Desa Hi-Tech is a sustainable smart village model that integrates renewable energy by using sola, IoT, smart agriculture, digital security, rainwater harvesting, and digital economic empowerment into rural communities, aiming to close the urban-rural digital divide. The project explores how automation and digital technology can address rural socioeconomic challenges, particularly inefficient resource management, high energy use, and limited economic opportunities. Integrated IoT systems, renewable energy adoption, and digital agriculture are expected to boost local economic activity, optimize agricultural yields, and promote sustainable use of energy and water. Developed using the Engineering Design Process by covering problem identification, ideation, prototyping, and testing. The Desa Hi-Tech prototype has shown strong viability. It demonstrates cost savings through solar streetlights, reduces water waste via sensor-based irrigation automation, and increases villagers' income through a centralized e-commerce ecosystem. Overall, the model offers significant potential to transform rural socioeconomic conditions while supporting Malaysia's progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
