About the Project
Crack and Grow (Eggplant) is a sustainable seed-sprouting project that explores the use of biodegradable eggshell pots as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic seedling trays. The project aims to reduce household eggshell waste, minimise plastic pollution, and promote healthier plant growth. Clean, perforated eggshells are filled with organic-based potting soil and seeds, then monitored for 14 days through daily watering and photographic records. Germination rate, sprouting time, and plant height are observed. Before transplantation, the eggshells are crushed and planted directly into the soil, reducing root disturbance and transplant shock. This low-cost, nutrient-enriched method supports sustainable gardening and offers practical applications for home gardeners, schools, and community farms.
