About the Project
The Smart Teaching Station (STEP) is an innovative, child-friendly modular teaching aid developed to support inclusive learning, with particular emphasis on learners with autism. Constructed primarily from recycled PVC pipes, plastic bottles, and repurposed materials, STEP promotes sustainable education while addressing the learning and behavioural needs of diverse pupils. Its modular design allows it to be assembled, dismantled, and reconfigured into various learning stations, ranging from ball-bouncing, net-based games, flexibility training, letter-writing (ABRAKS), storytelling, and public-speaking activities. These activities were tested with autism pupils, mainstream classes, and at home, proving its adaptability across classroom, field, and home environments. STEP significantly improves focus, motor skills, literacy, classroom engagement, and reduces screen dependency. Strongly aligned with SDG 4, this innovation demonstrates that accessible, equitable, meaningful learning can be achieved through low-cost, sustainable design.
