About the Project

The implementation of waqf, a centuries-old Islamic philanthropic mechanism, faces persistent challenges in the modern era, particularly in Malaysia. Issues such as lack of transparency, ineffective management, and poor donor engagement hinder its potential to drive sustainable economic and social development (Johari et al., 2023). Studies indicate that unclear financial reporting reduces donor trust and institutional credibility (Kamaruddin et al., 2024). Furthermore, the absence of real-time reporting and interactive feedback mechanisms contributes to donor disengagement (Abd Jalil, 2020). Waqf management in Malaysia faces critical challenges, including inadequate legislation, a lack of management skills, and transparency issues, which inhibit its growth and functionality (Ali & Markom, 2020). Furthermore, donor engagement remains insufficient, hindering consistent financial support and the full realization of waqf's objectives (Johari et al., 2023). To address these challenges, this paper proposes an innovation named i-Waqf. I-Waqf represents a digital transformation in waqf management, integrating technology to enhance transparency, efficiency, and donor engagement with real-time financial transparency. A real-time reporting system ensures open fund tracking and asset utilization, fostering greater accountability. Additionally, a user-friendly application enhances donor engagement by providing real-time notifications, transaction tracking, automated reports, and impact assessments. This innovation strengthens donor confidence and encourages sustained contributions. The impact of i-Waqf extends beyond local institutions, offering the potential for international adoption. By incorporating i-Waqf, waqf management can optimize fund distribution, ensuring sustainable philanthropic growth. Future developments may include collaborations with Islamic fintech companies and financial institutions to create a robust and accessible waqf ecosystem.
