About the Project
e-CONFIG: Visualise. Configure. Master. is an interactive digital learning innovation developed to help Matriculation students understand and apply electronic configuration in Chemistry SK015. The topic is often challenging because students need to visualise abstract electron arrangements involving shells, subshells and orbitals while applying the correct electron-filling rules. Conventional explanations may not sufficiently support students in visualising these concepts, affecting their understanding and confidence in answering related questions. To address this problem, e-CONFIG transforms electronic configuration learning into an animated adventure in the “Quantum Kingdom”, where students explore electron arrangement through visual storytelling and guided explanations. The animated video is developed using Gemini as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool to make abstract Chemistry concepts more visual, engaging and memorable. The innovation is delivered through a digital learning card containing two QR codes. The first QR code provides access to the AI-generated animated video, while the second links to a Google Form containing multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for post-video reinforcement. This creates a simple learning sequence of Watch, Explore, Answer and Master, accessible through students’ digital devices. The innovation has the potential to enhance students’ conceptual understanding, engagement and confidence in learning electronic configuration. Its digital format also supports classroom teaching, revision and self-directed learning, with potential for adaptation as a digital educational product for other Chemistry topics. Furthermore, e-CONFIG supports SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting accessible, engaging and technology-supported learning. Overall, the innovation combines AI-assisted animation, storytelling and digital assessment to transform a challenging Chemistry topic into an engaging learning adventure.
