About the Project

ARena Smash is a mobile learning application designed to support beginner badminton education through Augmented Reality (AR), interactive three-dimensional (3D) visualisation, structured learning modules and quizzes. Beginners often experience difficulty understanding court boundaries, singles and doubles playing areas, service zones and player positioning when using static learning materials. Dependence on coaches and physical courts can also limit opportunities for independent revision. The application provides an AR Court Explorer that allows users to view a virtual badminton court through a smartphone camera. Learning modules explain court layout, equipment, player positioning and basic rules, while quizzes and feedback help users assess their understanding. The project uses SketchUp for 3D modelling, Assemblr Studio for AR content, Android Studio for application development and Firebase for data management. Rapid Application Development (RAD) guides the development process through requirements analysis, prototyping, demonstration, refinement and testing. Questionnaire responses from 70 participants indicate generally positive perceptions of the application. For ease of use, 65.7% selected rating 5 and 22.9% selected rating 4. For model clarity, 70% selected rating 5, while 65.7% selected rating 5 for perceived support in understanding the court layout. These findings suggest that ARena Smash is perceived as a useful supplementary learning tool. However, further assessment is required to measure actual learning improvement. The application supports independent learning and coaching demonstrations, while practical training remains necessary for developing physical badminton skills
