Penang International Invention, Innovation & Design Competition 2027

The Penang International Invention, Innovation & Design Competition (PIID 2027) is a dynamic platform that brings together young minds, emerging innovators, academics, researchers, professionals and industry practitioners to showcase ideas that have the potential to create meaningful change.

Guided by the theme “Connecting Ideas, Creating Solutions, Transforming Futures”, PIID 2027 encourages participants to move beyond ideas and translate creativity, knowledge and expertise into practical innovations and solutions. Whether you are a school student developing your first invention, a university student exploring new possibilities, or a professional transforming research and experience into impactful solutions, PIID 2027 provides a platform for your innovation journey.

Participants may compete under three categories:

• Category A – Young Innovator: Open to primary and secondary school students, including equivalent international school levels. Participation is FREE.

• Category B – Emerging Innovator: Open to students from universities, colleges, polytechnics, community colleges, vocational institutions, technical institutes and other higher education institutions. Participation fee: RM150.

• Category C – Professional Innovator: Open to academics, researchers, teachers, government agencies, industry practitioners, entrepreneurs, professionals and independent innovators. Participation fee: RM200.

Projects may address one of four interdisciplinary subthemes: Engineering, Technology & Artificial Intelligence; Health, Environment & Sustainable Science; Education, Language & Human Development; and Entrepreneurship, Society & Community Innovation. This broad scope allows participants from diverse fields to present innovations that respond to technological, environmental, educational, economic and societal needs.

PIID 2027 will officially begin its promotion and registration phase in February 2027, with the project submission deadline on 2 August 2027. Projects will undergo judging from 16–30 August 2027, followed by the PIID 2027 Closing Ceremony and Awards Presentation on 15 September 2027.

PIID 2027 is organised by the Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB), Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Pulau Pinang, in collaboration with the Research Management Unit (RMU), Bahagian Penyelidikan, Jaringan Industri, Masyarakat & Alumni, UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang.
